MIDSA was founded in November 2000, and aims to:

•    Assist SADC governments to respond to the AU Strategic Framework on Migration and AU Common Position on Migration and Development

•    Stimulate discussion and debate on the implications of ratifying the SADC Draft Protocol on the Facilitation of Movement

•    Assist governments to participate in global debates about migration and development e.g. Global Commission on International Migration, UN High Level Dialogue on International Migration and Global Forum on Migration and Development

Migration Dialogue for Southern Africa (MIDSA) 2012 Technical Meeting

Monday, 27-08-2012 to Wednesday, 29-08-2012

Balaclava, Mauritius - The 2012 MIDSA Technical Meeting will bring together Southern African Development Community (SADC) Permanent Secretaries responsible for issues of migration and their counterparts responsible for labour mobility. The meeting will seek to elaborate and discuss a broader view on labour migration management that takes into account development needs, the management of human mobility and the broader contribution of labour migration within the overall context of regional development. The meeting will also look at the roles and responsibilities of the various stakeholders involved in efforts to harness the development potential of labour mobility for the benefit of the people of the SADC region.

The event is organized by IOM’s Regional Office for East and Southern Africa in Pretoria, IOM Mauritius, the SADC Secretariat and the Government of Mauritius.
